Scope: Provide day-to-day accounting and accounting systems maintenance and sub-system coordination to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of ACU's accounting information and reports.
I. Basic Responsibilities
- Process and account for capital assets and related depreciation.
- Document, maintain, and enhance financial reconciliations
- Other general accounting tasks and projects as needed
II. Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.
A. Process and account for capital asset and related depreciation.
- Calculate and prepare journal entries for additions to capital assets monthly
- Prepare walkforward reports for capital assets and accumulated depreciation
- Prepare year end reports for audit purposes
B. Document, maintain, and enhance financial reconciliations and reports
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts with subsidiary financial software systems (including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Development)
- Assist with preparation of financial statements and management reports, as needed.
C. Other tasks as needed
- Review and input journal entries
- Assist with year end close
- Assist with gathering information and answering questions for auditors
- Other tasks and projects as assigned
III. Professional Development Requirements:
A. Skills
- Attention to detail
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel spreadsheets
- Ability to reconcile accounting records and data
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Ability to operate university accounting system (Banner)
B. Training Modules Required
- Banner Finance and Discoverer
- Continuing education for not-for-profit accounting
IV. Qualifications:
ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.
A. Professional
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, preferred
- Experience in reconciliation of financial data.
B. Personal
- High attention to detail.
- High level of personal integrity.
- Ability to interact with and provide accounting consulting for other departments.
- Ability to manage a project through to completion through personal leadership; exceptional organization skills
V. Physical Demands
- Ability to sit and use a computer for long periods of time.
- Work long or unusual hours, as required to perform system processing
VI. Time Demands - Allows little, if any, time from June to Mid-August for vacation due to financial statement audit.
