Position: Director of Construction and Renovation
Classification: Exempt, Full-time
The key principle of this job is to support the mission of Abilene Christian University in educating students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.
Scope:
This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Operations. The incumbent will lead and direct all basic architectural services and construction supervision functions for the University. This includes new construction and renovation of existing structures. They will assist in evaluating and maintaining the Campus Master Plan. In addition the incumbent will coordinate closely with the Director of Physical Resources to ensure harmony with the preventative maintenance plan and routine maintenance.
The decisions associated with this role will have considerable impact upon the outcome of projects undertaken. Furthermore, by their nature, these projects will have considerable impact on the entire university. The cost, strategic value, and importance of facilities make it imperative that the incumbent be well versed in all aspects of construction.

II. Essential Duties include the following

A. Architectural Supervision
- The incumbent will work closely with campus leaders, including the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Directors and Department Chairs to identify nature and scope of proposed project prior to design, including investigation of compliance with state, local, and other applicable building codes, and convey information to appropriate persons.
- Direct preparation and creation of architectural drawings and other related design information on a preliminary or schematic level.
- Lead in the evaluation and selection of architectural firm(s) as needed.
- Provide drawings and documents, which describe the size and character of a project as to architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, materials, and such other elements as, may be appropriate.
B. Construction Supervison:
- Make accurate cost projections of all proposed projects. Projections include material, labor, and equipment.
- Manage projects to ensure that they are on time and within approved budgets.
- Lead in the evaluation and selection of contractors as warranted by the project.
- Provide direction and supervision to contractors, either general or subs, as projects progress.
- Supervise the daily activities of the Assistant Director of Construction and Renovation.
III. Professional Development Requirements:
- Basic Microsoft Office skills
- CAD and/or Revit experience
- Medium to Advanced Microsoft Project skills
IV. Qualifications:
ACU is affiliated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ. This position requires the employee to be a professing Christian and to be willing to support the Christian mission of ACU.
A. Professional
- Bachelors degree in architecture, construction or engineering strongly preferred.
- Minimum of five years experience in university construction, renovation, or maintenance or ten years of non-university experience.
- Preference given to professional certifications such as APPA's EFP or CEFP, etc.
- Working knowledge of systems, equipment, technology, process, procedures and materials associated with professional architectural services and construction.
