Position: Graphic Designer

For the purposes of ACU's Background Check and Self-Reporting Policy, this position is classified as security sensitive.

Exempt/Full time

The key principles of this job are to:

1. Support ACU's Mission: Educate students for Christian service and leadership throughout the world.
2. Support ACU's 21^st Century Vision: By 2020, ACU will become the premier university for the education of Christ-centered, global leaders.

Scope: Enhance ACU's image and advance its mission through creative presentation of the university's image through graphic design projects. The position reports to the assistant vice president for university communication and is part of the Creative Services Office and Office of University Relations.  Design projects are focused on ACU's external audiences.

I. Basic Responsibilities

A. Design and produce artwork/graphics for electronic and traditional publication projects.
B. Practice effective customer relations skills.
C. Help coordinate traffic flow of projects with production coordinator and vendors.
D. Successfully manage time and resources to meet deadlines on multiple projects.
E. Help proofread and edit copy as needed.

A. Graphic design and production

1. Demonstrate creative solutions to design/graphic arts challenges.
2. Develop and practice high levels of production workmanship.
3. Develop proficiencies in electronic as well as traditional publishing mediums.

B. Practice efficient customer relations skills

1. Communicate clearly with customers.
2. Listen to customer needs and meet them.
3. Cultivate customer loyalty through dependable, remarkable service.

C. Coordinate traffic flow with production coordinator and vendors

1. Learn vendor capabilities and execute projects to meet their requirements.
2. Practice quality control to ensure department standards are met/exceeded.
3. Communicate clearly with co-workers/vendors/customers in a timely manner.

D. Manage time and resources successfully

1. Manage time and resources as an exemplary steward.
2. Excel at program recognition and solutions.

E. Proofread and edit

1. Demonstrate conscientious proofreading and editing skills.
2. Demonstrate responsibility for language as well as images on projects.

III.  Professional Development Requirements: 

A. Skills

1. Demonstrated Macintosh proficiency in the following software:
   1. QuarkXPress or InDesign
   2. Photoshop / Illustrator / Adobe Creative Suite
   3. Microsoft Office suite
2. Demonstrated graphic arts print production and/or electronic publishing production proficiency.
3. At least 45 wpm typing.

B. Training Modules Required

1. Priority Manager or similar program
2. Software-specific training as needed.

IV. Qualifications:

A. Professional

1. Bachelor's degree or experience in graphic design, art, digital media, or mass communication.
2. Demonstrated high proficiency in use of graphic design software for Macintosh.
3. Demonstrated creative ability.

V. Physical Demands

A. Sitting. Able to work at the computer for extensive periods (80 percent) of time.
B. Driving. Acess to vehicle for trips to local vendors.
C. Talking. Ability to communicate easily with customers on phone and in person.
D. Lifting. Moving boxes up to 30 lbs. (for deliveries).
